Greek exports to Australia reduced for first quarter of 2011
Greek exports to Australia have decreased despite the fact that Greece has recorded a continuing increase in exports, mainly towards the EU countries, during the first two months of 2011.
According to an analysis by the Panhellenic Exporters Association (PEA) and the Export Research & Studies Center (KEEM), Greek exports, including petroleum products, increased by 31.5 per cent during the January-March 2011 quarter in relation to...
the respective quarter in 2010, while in corresponding value terms their value increased to 4,566.9 million euros from 3,473.4 million euros.
An important increase was recorded in exports to EU enlargement countries (20.8%), to the North American countries (26.5%), other OECD countries (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, 40.5%), the Balkans (23.1%), the Commonwealth of Independent States (46.5%), the Middle East & North Africa (66.3%). There is nearly a quadrupling of exports to Southeast Asia (Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, 290%), and nearly a doubling of exports to Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Bahamas, St. Vincent, Honduras, Panama, Chile, at 97.3%).
On the contrary, a 28 per cent reduction of exports was recorded to Australia, Japan and New Zealand. According to the report, the main reasons for the decrease of Greek exports to the above countries was the euro - US dollar exchange rate, social and political developments in North African and Middle East countries, as well as the impact on international trade of the earthquake and the tsunami in Japan.
